DAVAO CITY – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources – River Basin Control Office (DENR-RBCO) and the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) conducted the 1st Mindanao River Basin Organization Conference last November 11-12, 2015 at the Grand Regal Hotel, Davao City.
Among the agreements arrived at during the Conference were: (1) To achieve their medium and long term goals, the River Basin Organizations in Mindanao shall implement their identified priority programs, projects and activities for 2016-2018; (2) The DENR, MinDA and other National Government Agencies will sustain their technical and financial support to RBOs; (3) The RBOs intend to take concrete actions at the forefront of the advocacy for re-greening Mindanao; and (4) The RBO’s and other LGU alliances shall adopt the payment for ecological services (PES) as well as other means of sustaining efforts to nurture the environment.
Undersecretary for Policy and Planning & Foreign Assisted Programs Manuel D. Gerochi recalled in his message that the unprecedented overflowing of the rivers in Mindanao brought forth the collaboration of MinDA and DENR, RBCO Executive Director Jacob F. Meimban, Jr., on the other hand, provided updates on the eight major river basins in Mindanao and River Basin Organizations.
