ANTIPOLO CITY – The Protected Area Management Board (PAMB) of Upper Marikina River Basin Protected Landscape (UMRBPL) held a consultation meeting on the Scoping Study for the WB’s PROFOR Technical Assistance last June 15, 2015 on “The Role of Forest in Reducing Poverty and Enhancing Climate Resilience: A Case Study.†The scoping study is done by the World Bank Team with the assistance of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources River Basin Control Office (DENR-RBCO) and Forest Management Bureau (FMB).
The meeting was initiated by Dr. Isidro Mercado, PASu of UMRBPL and PENRO of Rizal. He acknowledged the presence of the PAMB and guests and provided the overview of the meeting. Mr. Leo Paat of the World Bank Team presented the project, its background and objectives. Marikina River Basin is one of the three (3) major river basins where the study will be conducted. The project will include biophysical modelling, valuation and economic analysis on the distribution of forest ecosystem in the basin. Mr Eugene Soyosa, FMB representative, presented the project’s timeline and activities.
RBCO Executive Director Jacob F. Meimban, Jr gave a brief overview of the 21 priority river basins of the country, its role and its importance to the ecosystem. He emphasized that the project is in consonance with the rolling out of the Marikina River Basin’s Master Plan. A brief overview of the master plan was presented by Ms. Ashley Arguelles.
The council moved for the endorsement on the conduct of the PROFOR study at the Upper Marikina River Basin Protected Landscape, a sub-basin of the Marikina River Basin.
